New: The 5th Poker (2006)

Four artists: two contemporary ones and two from the past, in the first Poker; and a new hand of four artists, in the second one. The eight can be put together either as two contemporary and two from the past each on the one hand, or the four contemporary and the four from the past on the other. In time the cards will multiply, and the readers will be able to compose their own Pokers (i.e. the winning hand of the game). Is it art? Is it a game? "Art is a game - Bice Lazzari said - it is a moment of wonderful purity which in playing finds a valid meaning".
Who are the artists of this new collection? A number is already known among Eidos publications, others are new. The first volume, edited by Vittoria Surian, with critical interventions by Caterina Caneva and Adriana Chemello, offers Marietta Robusti, called la Tintoretta (Venice 1554-1590), with quotations from "Il Merito delle Donne" by Moderata Fonte (1552-1592); Isabella Piccini, etcher (Venice 1684-1734), with an essay by art historian Vittoria Gosen. The contemporary artists: Maria Lai, from Sardinia, with a fable by Salvatore Camboso; a photographic book (a new branching out for Eidos) by Riccarda Pagnozzato with her "Simulacri da Vestire". The second Poker: Giulia Lama, presented by Macri Puricelli; Rosalba Carriera presented by Lidia Panzeri.
The contemporary artists are Elisa Montessori with poems by Dorothy Parker (Dorothy Parker presented by Maria Luisa Minio-Paluello); Marina Sasso, inspired by Marina Cvetaeva. The third Poker (2004) edited by Vittoria Surian presents Andreina Bertelli, Giovanna Gentilini, Nicoletta Moncalieri e Alberta Pellacani.

The experience and professional expertise of Eidos Publications as usual supported by well known critics, historians, journalists, guarantee the known high quality.
With the "Pokers of Art", the work of discovery and publication of women's creativity, so little known and supported even now, and for which Eidos has been working the past fifteen years, goes on. "Pokers of Art" follows on the other collections: "Le onde", "Collezione Artemisia" and "Preziose carte", and intends to be a lithe instrument of information with books small in size but rich in contents; for the historical artists there are many literary and iconographic quotations, while the contemporary artists contribute their own original work. The collection is to proceed in future with more women artist, and into other arts and times and nationalities.

The volumes, 16 by 16 cm, folded concertina-wise, with 24 pages, 12 of illustrations and as many of text, include the literary and critical contributions quoted, the artist's biography, itineraries etc. The texts are bilingual Italian-English. Euro 10.00 each volume.
